The Savant Cognition Insight

Savant cognition research shows something counterintuitive: exceptional abilities often emerge when normal "top-down" neural compression is reduced. Where most brains automatically categorise and average sensory input, savants sometimes perceive raw detail—seeing what's actually there rather than what they expect.

rTMS studies demonstrate this can be temporarily induced: suppress the "averaging" circuits and latent perceptual abilities emerge.
